Chocolate Dessert Board

I'm sure you've seen the "Butter Board" craze that swept the internet a few weeks ago. While we are huge fans of butter, we think the idea works even better with a chocolate spread. Think chocolate fondue that you can set up anywhere. This is the perfect treat for a romantic evening at home or a get together with friends and loved ones! Best of all, it's completely customizable. We'll take you through the basics of putting together your perfect chocolate spread board below:

What You'll Need:

The Tools
  • Choose a serving platter to set up on. We recommend a glass serving plate for ease of cleanup but feel free to use what you have

  • A spoon for applying the spread/toppings

  • Serving knives if you prefer to use these to pick up the spread instead of dipping straight in.

The Base

The base spread will be the creamy, rich foundation of our dessert board. We recommend choosing a Chocolate+Nut based spread as these tend to pair with a wide range of toppings but choose what suits you.

  • Rhyme and Reason Chocolate Co.'s Pecan Chocolate Spread

  • Or your chocolate spread / nut butter / seed butter of choice

Add Some Sweetness

Our Pecan Spread isn't super sweet on it's own and since this is a dessert board we wanted to add a little something extra for sweetness and visual interest. If you think your spread is sweet enough as-is then feel free to skip this ingredient.

Maple Syrup

Honey

Agave Syrup

Caramel Sauce

Date Syrup

Chocolate Syrup

Add Some Crunch

Now that you've got your base, add some texture for a little bit of interest in every bite. We've got some recommendations to get you started but feel free to get creative! This is your opportunity to craft the perfect flavor profile. Choose salty toppings to give the perfect contrast to sweetness. Nuts and seeds add crunch while complimenting the creaminess of the spread. Sweeter toppings will take the decadent factor over the top. You can use as many or as few toppings as you'd like.

Candied Pecans/Nuts

Toasted Coconut

Sliced Almonds

Mini Marshmallows

Sunflower Seeds

Sprinkles

Pepitas

Granola Clusters

Pistachios

Cacao Nibs

Coarse Sea Salt

Dried Cranberries

Crisped Rice

Pomegranate Arils

The Dip-ins

Now we need something to get our delicious chocolate concoction from the plate to our mouths. A few of our favorites to dip include:

Strawberries

Brownie Bites

Sliced Banana

Pretzel

Apple Slices

Crispy Bacon Strips (trust me)

Pound Cake Bites

Salty Potato Chips (no seriously, trust me)

Assembly

Once you've got your favorite ingredients together its time to assemble your board.

Step One: Use a spoon or knife to scoop up the spread and apply it to the serving plate. We like to use the back of a spoon to make little wave shapes. Keep scooping and adding dollops to the plate until you've covered the surface. For our board we are using Rhyme and Reason Chocolate Company's Pecan Chocolate Spread.

Step Two: Now it's time to add a sweet syrupy swirl. We recommend drizzling a light ribbon back and forth across the spread base. You want to add a subtle pop of sweetness not drown the board in it. For our board we chose to use Salted Caramel.

Step Three: Using a spoon or your (clean!) hands, sprinkle your chosen toppings evenly over the top of the spread. For our board we've used some Himalayan Sea Salt, Candied Walnuts, and Dried Cranberries.

Step Four: Now your board is ready to serve! you can place the dip-ins around the perimeter of the serving plate or put them on a separate board. For our board we've used strawberries, banana slices, and pound cake bites.

Enjoy!
